Undergraduate Degree Project

Date:
2014

Undergraduate degree project based on encouraging commuting adults—mainly those in non-STEM fields—to be well-informed about current scientific topics and news. The project's main component is a weekly publication designed to provoke curiosity and wonderment through not only its weekly selection of scientific topics or stories, but as well as the physical design of the publication itself.

The proposed publication includes a website and mobile application with digital versions of current and past issues and a curated collection of links to articles and news related to each week's topic. The mobile app also contains interactive elements and augmented reality (AR) features. Other components include environmental proposals for modular publication containers, QR code stickers for AR functioning, sticker dispensors, and a poster for guerilla advertising of the publication.

Expoundrous App

Mobile app gathers all of the latest issues and relevant news pieces in one place. More than an archive, the app would also contain AR capabilities allowing viewers to post and share videos, photos, articles, .gifs, and other links to their local surrounding world through their smartphone camera. Users can also scan QR codes to save links posted by other users or connect their own content to a code/sticker as a way of dealing with limited internet connectivity in certain spaces.
